A novel diisopropyl phosphoryl chitosan was successfully synthesized by Atherton-Todd reaction of chitosan with diisopropyl phosphite.The effects of reaction conditions including volume ratio of water to ethanol,molar ratio of chitosan to triethylamine,molar ratio of chitosan to diisopropyl phosphite,and reaction time at the room temperature on the phosphorus content were investigated.IR,1H-NMR,13C-NMR and 31P-NMR showed that diisopropyl phosphoryl group was grafted on the amino group of chitosan.The results of TG were also investigated.By this simple and efficient synthetic method a new approach to the preparation of N-phosphoryl chitosan derivatives was provided.
